How To Prepare Your Home For A Spring Sale

You might be thinking there’s still snow on the ground… why am I preparing my home for a spring sale? The truth is, spring will be here sooner than you think!

Here's how to get your home ready in 5 steps so you can maximize your time in the market.

1. Assess The Condition Of Your Home

The first step is to do a thorough walk-thru with an objective eye. Does it have “move-in ready appeal” that will impress young, savvy buyers? Is there chipped paint anywhere? The moldings, trim & the walls should be looking their best. Could the front entry carpet benefit from being replaced? Look at your property through the eyes of your buyer and determine what needs the most attention so that potential buyers with families can immediately connect and envision themselves living there with minimal work to do when they move in.

2. First Impressions Are A Big Deal

With the changing seasons, try to tackle exterior repairs and landscaping while you can; clearing debris from gutters, shovel driveways/walkways, lawn raked and trimmed shrubs. For an inviting front porch with curb appeal, wash your front door and polish the door knob. Then add welcoming accents such as potted flowers, a beautiful wreath on the door or a colourful welcome mat.

3. Get Organized & Remove Clutter

Tackle clutter one room at a time and decide whether to keep or discard items based on importance and frequency of use. Remove personal items, collectibles and excessive furniture that distract from the room’s key features as well as its perceived size and flow. Then organize the remaining items with efficient storage solutions to help the room look its best. Removing unnecessary pieces of furniture will reduce clutter and highlight the space of the room.

4. Freshen Up The Place

A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for updating your space. Look around each room… What needs a modern touch? Does any outdated wallpaper need to be removed? What's the condition of the window treatments? Do your hardwood floors need some care and attention? Ensure every room has been cleaned to showcase your home in its most pristine condition

5. Wow Your Buyers

Once you’ve invested in the necessary upgrades to impress, your buyers need to imagine their future in your home. Strategically placed modern furniture, paired with colourful and inviting accents will leave a lasting impression on your buyers.
